UROS Antibody (A-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects UROS protein of mouse origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). UROS (A-8) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Uroporphyrinogen-III synthase (UROS), also known as hydroxymethylbilane hydrolyase, is a crucial 265-amino acid protein that plays a vital role in the heme biosynthetic pathway, primarily located in skeletal muscle, heart muscle, the caudate nucleus, and the amygdala. As the fourth enzyme in this pathway, UROS catalyzes the conversion of hydroxymethylbilane into uroporphyrinogen III, a cyclic tetrapyrrole essential for hemoglobin and other heme-containing proteins. Proper functioning of UROS is critical, as defects in the UROS gene can lead to significant health issues, including the autosomal recessive condition known as Gunther disease or congenital erythropoietic porphyria (CEP). This disorder is characterized by the accumulation of uroporphyrin I in various tissues, including the bone marrow and peripheral blood, which can result in severe complications and often leads to early mortality in affected individuals.
