UPIIIa Antibody (F-11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects UPIIIa in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). UPIIIa is a crucial component of the uroplakin family, which plays a significant role in forming the asymmetric unit membrane (AUM) covering the apical surface of the urothelium. This membrane is essential for maintaining bladder integrity during distention, as UPIIIa helps prevent rupturing by providing structural support. UPIIIa interacts with other uroplakin proteins, specifically UPIa and UPIb, to form tightly packed structures vital for normal urothelial plaque formation. Post-translational modifications, including proteolytic processing, regulate proper assembly and function of these plaques, ensuring uroplakin proteins are correctly modified for optimal function. UPIIIa expression in normal urothelium serves as a specific marker for urothelial differentiation, making UPIIIa a valuable target in studying transitional cell carcinomas of the bladder. UPIIIa expression in a majority of these carcinomas highlights potential as a biomarker for detecting bladder cancer metastasis and assessing responses to chemotherapeutic treatments, underscoring UPIIIa importance in both basic research and clinical applications.
