Tom40 Antibody (H-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b light chain antibody that detects Tom40 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Tom40 is a crucial component of the mitochondrial preprotein translocase of the outer membrane (Tom) complex, which plays a vital role in the import of nucleus-encoded precursor proteins into mitochondria. Tom40 forms the general import pore (GIP) that allows various preproteins to traverse the mitochondrial outer membrane, thereby facilitating essential mitochondrial functions such as energy production and metabolic regulation. The structure of Tom40 consists of a β-barrel configuration that creates a channel through which preproteins can pass. This structural feature ensures selective transport of proteins while maintaining the integrity of the mitochondrial membrane, critical for cellular homeostasis. The interaction of Tom40 with other components of the Tom complex, such as Tom22 and Tom20, is essential for efficient translocation of preproteins, highlighting the importance of structural integrity in mitochondrial biogenesis and function. Anti-Tom40 antibody (H-7) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying mitochondrial dynamics and protein import mechanisms, providing insights into the molecular underpinnings of mitochondrial-related diseases.
