    SEE ALSO...

SLA/LP Antibody (E-11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects SLA/LP protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). SLA/LP (E-11) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. SLA/LP protein, also known as SEPSECS (Sep (O-phosphoserine) tRNA:Sec (selenocysteine) tRNA synthase) or SLA-p35, is a 501 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that plays a crucial role in the biosynthesis of selenoproteins, which are essential for various biological processes, including antioxidant defense and redox regulation. Located predominantly in the liver, lung, kidney, and pancreas, SLA/LP is part of a diverse family of pyridoxal phosphate-dependent enzymes that facilitate the aminoacylation of tRNAs. Specifically, SLA/LP catalyzes the conversion of O-phosphoseryl-tRNA(Sec) to Sec-tRNA(Sec) by replacing the phosphate group with a selenol moiety, a critical step in the synthesis of selenocysteine, the 21st amino acid. The importance of this function is underscored by the fact that selenoproteins are involved in critical cellular processes, and their dysfunction can lead to various diseases. Additionally, alternative splicing of the SLA/LP gene results in two distinct isoforms, further highlighting the complexity and regulatory mechanisms governing selenoprotein biosynthesis.
