Sam50 Antibody (SQ-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Sam50 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Sam50 antibody (SQ-7) is available as the non-conjugated form. Sam50, also known as sorting assembly machinery component 50 homolog, SAMM50, OMP85, TOB55, TRG-3, CGI-51, or YNL026W, is a β-barrel multi-pass membrane protein that serves as a crucial member of the SAM50/omp85 family. Sam50 is primarily located in the mitochondrion, where Sam50 plays a vital role in the assembly of mitochondrial outer membrane β-barrel proteins, which are essential for maintaining mitochondrial function and overall cellular health. Sam50 functions as a key component of the sorting and assembly machinery (SAM) complex, also referred to as the topogenesis of mitochondrial outer membrane β-barrel proteins (TOB) complex, and remains indispensable for cell viability. Sam50′s N-terminal POTRA (polypeptide transport-associated) domain, which is conserved across species from bacteria to humans, acts as a receptor for β-barrel proteins in the intermembrane space. Sam50′s interaction with the Sam35 subunit of the SAM complex is critical for binding to outer membrane substrate proteins, highlighting the intricate network of protein interactions necessary for mitochondrial function.
