RGS8 Antibody (C-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects RGS8 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). RGS8 is a critical regulator of G protein signaling, functioning as a GTPase-activating protein that enhances the GTPase activity of G protein alpha-subunits, thus promoting their transition to an inactive GDP-bound state. Notably, RGS8 is primarily expressed in the brain, particularly within the Purkinje cells of the cerebellum, where RGS8 plays a unique role compared to other RGS proteins by positively influencing G-protein-coupled inwardly rectifying potassium channels (GIRK1/2). This distinctive function suggests that RGS8 not only serves as a negative regulator of G protein signaling but also enhances the kinetic efficacy of G proteins, which is essential for proper neuronal signaling and function. The NH2 terminus of RGS8 is crucial for cellular localization, underscoring the importance of spatial distribution in modulating signaling pathways. Anti-RGS8 antibody (C-5) is an invaluable tool for researchers investigating the complex roles of RGS proteins in cellular signaling and their implications in neurological functions.
