Properdin Antibody (D-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Properdin protein of mouse origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Properdin (D-3) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Properdin, also known as complement factor P, plays a crucial role in the serum complement system, which consists of over 30 glycoproteins that mediate immune responses. This secreted glycoprotein is essential for the positive regulation of the alternative pathway of the complement system, where Properdin stabilizes C3 and C5 convertase complexes, specifically C3bBb and (C3b)nBb. Properdin exists as a cyclic polymer composed of six Thrombospondin type-1 domains, which allows Properdin to effectively bind to these complexes and facilitate the deposition of C3b onto pathogen surfaces, thereby enhancing opsonization and clearance of infections. Mutations in the gene encoding Properdin can lead to Properdin deficiency, a condition that significantly increases susceptibility to bacterial infections, highlighting Properdin′s vital role in maintaining immune system integrity.
