Properdin Antibody (C-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Properdin in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Properdin antibody (C-4) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Properdin, also known as complement factor P, plays a crucial role in the serum complement system, which consists of over 30 glycoproteins that mediate immune responses. This secreted glycoprotein is essential for the stabilization of C3 and C5 convertase complexes, specifically C3bBb and (C3b)nBb, thereby enhancing the alternative pathway of the complement system. Properdin exists as a cyclic polymer composed of six Thrombospondin type-1 domains, which allows effective binding to these convertase complexes and facilitates the deposition of C3b onto pathogen surfaces, a critical step in opsonization and subsequent immune clearance. Deficiencies in Properdin due to genetic mutations can lead to increased susceptibility to bacterial infections, highlighting its importance in maintaining immune defense.
