Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen (PCNA) is a 36 kDa nuclear protein that acts as a homotrimeric sliding clamp, essential for DNA replication and repair by enhancing the processivity of DNA polymerases during the S-phase of the cell cycle. Predominantly localized in the nucleus, PCNA serves as a crucial marker for cell proliferation, aiding scientists in studying DNA synthesis, repair mechanisms, and cellular responses to DNA damage. The human PCNA gene is located on chromosome 20 at position 20p12.3.
