Pax-3 (A-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody. PAX3 contains paired domains sharing strong homology to Drosophila genes involved in early development programming. PAX3 functions as a DNA-binding protein expressed during early neurogenesis, containing both a paired domain and a paired-type homeodomain. During early neurogenesis, PAX3 expression remains limited to mitotic cells in the ventricular zone of the developing spinal cord and specific regions in the hindbrain, midbrain, and diencephalon. In 10-12 day embryos, PAX3 expression appears in neural crest cells of the developing spinal ganglia, craniofacial mesectoderm, and limb mesenchyme. Mutations in MITF and PAX3 genes, which encode transcription factors, cause Waardenburg syndrome II (WSII) and WSI/WSIII, respectively.
