P504S Antibody (A-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects P504S in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). P504S, also known as α-methylacyl-CoA racemase (AMACR), is an enzyme that plays a crucial role in the metabolism of branched-chain fatty acids and bile acid intermediates, localizing primarily to the peroxisome and mitochondrion. P504S is essential for catalyzing the conversion of pristanoyl-CoA and C27-bile acyl-CoAs to their (S)-stereoisomers, which are subsequently degraded via peroxisomal β-oxidation. Mutations in the gene encoding P504S can lead to significant metabolic disorders, including AMACR deficiency, characterized by elevated levels of pristanic acid and associated with adult-onset sensory motor neuropathy, as well as congenital bile acid synthesis defect type 4, which presents with intrahepatic cholestasis and neonatal jaundice.
