Opalin Antibody (E-8) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects Opalin in mouse and rat samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Opalin (E-8) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Opalin, also referred to as HTMP10 or transmembrane protein 10 (TMEM10), is a 141 amino acid single-pass type I membrane protein predominantly expressed in oligodendrocytes within the brain. This protein plays a crucial role in the formation and maintenance of myelin sheaths, which are essential for proper conduction of electrical impulses along nerve fibers. The integrity of myelin is vital for efficient functioning of the nervous system, and any disruption in myelin formation can lead to severe neurological disorders, including multiple sclerosis. The gene encoding Opalin is located on human chromosome 10q24.1, a region that spans nearly 135 million base pairs and encodes approximately 1,200 genes, some of which are implicated in various genetic disorders. By utilizing anti-Opalin antibody (E-8), researchers can gain insights into Opalin′s role in myelination and potential implications in neurodegenerative diseases.
