NDUFB11, also known as NADH dehydrogenase (ubiquinone) 1 beta subcomplex subunit 11, ESSS, Np15, Np17.3, or p17.3, is a crucial hydrophobic transmembrane protein that plays an essential role as an accessory subunit of Complex I in the mitochondrial inner membrane. Complex I catalyzes electron transfer from NADH to ubiquinone, contributing to the generation of an electrochemical proton gradient that drives ATP synthesis. Phosphorylation of NDUFB11 by cAMP-dependent protein kinases regulates Complex I activity, influencing mitochondrial function and energy production.
