Mucin 5AC Antibody (A-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects Mucin 5AC (MUC5AC) in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). MUC5AC is a gel-forming mucin primarily secreted by surface mucous cells, playing a crucial role in the protection and lubrication of epithelial surfaces, particularly in the respiratory and gastrointestinal tracts. MUC5AC structure, characterized by a high molecular weight and a complex arrangement of O-linked carbohydrates, is essential for forming a protective mucus barrier. The presence of specific glycosylation patterns, such as GlcNAca1-->4Galb-->R structures, indicates alpha1,4-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase involvement in mucin synthesis, which maintains mucosal integrity and responds to inflammatory stimuli. MUC5AC expression is regulated by various factors, including glucocorticoids and pro-inflammatory cytokines like IL-6 and TNF-alpha, which enhance secretion during chronic inflammation.
