MMP-21 Antibody (C-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody designed to detect human matrix metalloproteinase-21 (MMP-21) with precision in applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). MMP-21 monoclonal antibody (C-7) targets an epitope mapping between amino acids 241-263 within an internal region of MMP-21, ensuring robust reactivity with MMP-21 from mouse, rat, and human origins. MMP-21, also called HTX7 and MMP21, is a 569 amino acid enzyme that plays a crucial role in the degradation of extracellular matrix (ECM) components, including collagen, gelatin, fibronectin, laminin, and proteoglycans, which are essential for processes such as embryogenesis, tissue development, tumor progression, and apoptosis. Structurally, MMP-21 consists of a prodomain, catalytic domain, and hemopexin-like domain, and undergoes significant post-translational modifications vital for activation and function. MMP-21 is synthesized as an inactive proenzyme and requires cleavage of its prodomain by extracellular proteinases to become enzymatically active, a modification essential for ECM remodeling and cellular migration. Additionally, glycosylation of MMP-21 enhances stability, localization, and interactions with other proteins, such as tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMPs) and integrins, which regulate proteolytic activity and facilitate involvement in cell adhesion and invasion. The precise regulation of these post-translational modifications is critical for maintaining the balance between ECM degradation and tissue integrity, and dysregulation can contribute to pathological conditions like cancer metastasis and abnormal tissue development. Anti-MMP-21 antibody (C-7) enables researchers to investigate the intricate mechanisms of MMP-21 regulation, interactions with other proteins, and impact on various physiological and pathological processes, making this tool indispensable for advancing biomedical research and developing targeted therapeutic strategies.
