MetAP-1 Antibody (C-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects MetAP-1 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). MetAP-1, a member of the M24 family of proteins, plays a crucial role in protein maturation by removing the amino-terminal methionine residue from nascent polypeptides, a process essential for proper protein folding and function. This 394-amino acid protein is expressed at low levels across various tissues but shows particular abundance in skeletal muscle, highlighting MetAP-1′s importance in muscle physiology. The active site of MetAP-1 features two adjacent divalent metal ions, which are crucial for enzymatic activity, as these ions connect through a water molecule or hydroxide ion. Cell proliferation regulation in mammalian cells links closely to the highly conserved mechanism employed by MetAP-1, making MetAP-1 a significant target for therapeutic intervention. Notably, eukaryotes possess both MetAP-1 and MetAP-2, while prokaryotes only have MetAP-1 enzyme, underscoring the evolutionary significance.
