MetAP-1 Antibody (A-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects MetAP-1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). MetAP-1 (A-2) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Methionine aminopeptidases, or MetAPs, are crucial enzymes that play a significant role in protein maturation by removing the amino-terminal methionine residue from nascent polypeptides, a process essential for proper protein folding and function. MetAP-1 protein, consisting of 394 amino acids, is expressed at low levels across various tissues but shows particularly high expression in skeletal muscle, highlighting MetAP-1′s importance in muscle physiology. The active site of MetAP-1 is characterized by the presence of two adjacent divalent metal ions, which are essential for enzymatic activity, as these ions facilitate the hydrolysis of the methionine residue. This mechanism of action is evolutionarily conserved and underscores MetAP-1′s critical role in regulating cell proliferation in mammalian cells. Inhibitors such as pyridine-2-carboxylic acid thiazol-2-ylamide and 1,2,4-triazol have been identified, which target the active site of MetAP-1, providing insights into potential therapeutic strategies for diseases linked to dysregulated protein processing.
