MEPE Antibody (B-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects matrix extracellular phosphoglycoprotein (MEPE) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). MEPE is a 525 amino acid extracellular matrix protein predominantly expressed in osteocytes and the brain, playing a crucial role in regulating bone metabolism by mediating mineralization and demineralization within the osteocyte microenvironment. MEPE features an RGD cell-attachment motif, which is essential for interaction with integrins, facilitating cell adhesion and signaling processes. This interaction is vital for maintaining bone integrity and function, as MEPE influences osteocyte communication and the overall bone remodeling process. MEPE′s ability to regulate bone mineralization links MEPE to significant developmental events such as skeletogenesis, bone regeneration, and odontogenesis. Furthermore, MEPE is secreted in hypophosphatemic osteomalacia tumors, indicating potential involvement in the pathophysiology of bone-related cancers. Defects in the gene encoding MEPE have been associated with osteomalacia, a condition characterized by inadequate bone mineralization, highlighting the importance of MEPE in skeletal health.
