Melanotransferrin Antibody (A-3) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects melanotransferrin in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Melanotransferrin, also known as p97, belongs to the transferrin family of iron-binding proteins, which includes serum transferrin, lactoferrin, and ovotransferrin, and shows notable expression on melanoma cells. Anti-melanotransferrin antibody (A-3) recognizes a unique structure that enables iron binding, though less efficiently than transferrin. This structural feature suggests specialized roles beyond iron transport, including involvement in cancer progression and neurodegenerative diseases. The gene encoding human melanotransferrin resides on chromosome 3q28-29 and expresses predominantly in membrane-bound or secreted forms. In brain tissue, melanotransferrin may serve protective functions against membrane-lipid peroxidation in Alzheimer′s disease and contribute to intracellular adhesion. Understanding melanotransferrin′s structure and function remains crucial for revealing biological significance and therapeutic potential.
