SEE ALSO...

MaxiKα Antibody (B-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects MaxiKα protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). MaxiKα (B-1) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The KCNMA1 gene, located on chromosome 10q22.3, encodes MaxiKα protein, which is also known as the calcium-activated potassium channel, large conductance calcium- and voltage-dependent potassium channel α subunit, Slo α subunit, and BKCA α subunit. MaxiKα protein plays a crucial role in regulating smooth muscle contraction and neuronal excitability by forming calcium-activated potassium channels, which are essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis. MaxiKα protein is primarily expressed in neurons and smooth muscle tissue, where MaxiKα protein associates with MaxiKβ subunit to create channels that respond to increases in intracellular calcium ion concentrations. The interaction between MaxiKα and MaxiKβ is vital, as this interaction modulates the channel′s sensitivity to calcium, thereby influencing various physiological processes, including muscle relaxation and neurotransmitter release. Additionally, MaxiK channels are implicated in cell shrinkage and apoptosis in pulmonary vascular smooth muscle cells, highlighting their importance in cardiovascular health.
