Kell Antibody (BRIC 203) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects Kell in human samples through immunoprecipitation (IP). Kell (BRIC 203) antibody targets the Kell blood group protein, which is a type II transmembrane endopeptidase that plays a crucial role in erythropoiesis and is primarily expressed in erythroid tissues and the testis, with lower levels found in various other tissues, including the brain and lymphoid tissues. Anti-Kell antibody (BRIC 203) is essential for studying red blood cell integrity and function, as Kell is one of the major surface antigens on red blood cells, linked to the XK protein by a single disulfide bond. The interaction between Kell and XK is significant because the absence of XK, as seen in the McLeod phenotype, can lead to a range of clinical symptoms, including nerve and muscle disorders and red cell acanthocytosis, highlighting the importance of Kell in both hematological health and disease. Immunohistochemical studies have shown that Kell is localized to Sertoli cells in the testis and follicular dendritic cells in the spleen and tonsil, further emphasizing its diverse roles in the human body.
