HPV16 L1 Antibody (289-16981) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a antibody that detects HPV16 L1 in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. HPV16 L1 plays a crucial role in the life cycle of human papillomavirus type 16, which is known to infect the genital tract and is associated with cervical cancer. HPV16 L1 is primarily located in the upper layers of the infected epithelium, where expression occurs, and forms the pentameric assembly unit of the viral capsid. This structural arrangement is vital for the virus′s ability to package its genome and facilitate infection. The C-terminus of HPV16 L1 is essential for both binding to DNA and the subsequent packaging of the viral genome, underscoring its importance in the viral life cycle. HPV16 L1 can package unrelated plasmid DNA in vitro, demonstrating potential as a tool for gene delivery into eukaryotic cells. The unique localization of HPV16 L1, which shows a diffuse nuclear distribution, contrasts with the punctate nuclear regions occupied by the minor capsid protein L2, highlighting the distinct roles these proteins play in the viral assembly process. Anti-HPV16 L1 antibody (289-16981) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying the mechanisms of HPV infection and the development of cervical cancer.
