GPx-1/2 Antibody (D-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 antibody that detects glutathione peroxidase (GPx) in mouse, rat, and human samples through western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GPx enzymes, particularly GPx-1 and GPx-2, are crucial for cellular defense against oxidative stress, as these enzymes catalyze the reduction of lipid hydroperoxides to alcohols and convert free hydrogen peroxide into water, thereby preventing lipid peroxidation of cell membranes. The presence of selenocysteine at the active site of GPx enzymes, which is encoded by the stop codon TGA, is vital for enzymatic activity and antioxidant function.
