GM3 Synthase Antibody (B-12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects GM3 Synthase of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-GM3 Synthase antibody (B-12) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. GM3 Synthase, also known as Sialyltransferase 9 or ST3Gal V, is a Golgi type II transmembrane glycosyltransferase predominantly expressed in the brain and placenta, playing a crucial role in the biosynthesis of complex gangliosides. This enzyme catalyzes the transfer of α-sialic acid to the terminal galactose of lactosylceramide, resulting in the formation of GM3, the simplest ganglioside. GM3 is essential for various cellular processes, including cell differentiation, signal transduction, and the modulation of cell proliferation. The synthesis of GM3 by GM3 Synthase represents the first major step in the formation of nearly all other gangliosides, highlighting GM3 Synthase′s importance as a key regulatory enzyme in ganglioside biosynthesis. Notably, mutations in the gene encoding GM3 Synthase can lead to severe neurological disorders, such as Amish infantile epilepsy syndrome, due to the inability to synthesize α- and β-series gangliosides.
