SEE ALSO...

GK1 Antibody (F-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects GK1 in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GK1 antibody (F-5) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. GK1, or glycerol kinase 1, is a crucial enzyme that plays a significant role in glycerol metabolism, catalyzing the phosphorylation of glycerol to form glycerol phosphate, which is a vital intermediate in both glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. This enzymatic activity is essential for maintaining energy homeostasis and lipid metabolism, particularly in tissues such as the liver, kidney, and testis, where GK1 is highly expressed. GK1 consists of 559 amino acids and is classified as a mitochondrial peripheral membrane protein belonging to the FGGY kinase family. GK1 exists in three isoforms due to alternative splicing, which may contribute to functional diversity. Mutations in the genes encoding glycerol kinases can lead to glycerol kinase deficiency, a condition associated with hyperglycerolemia, psychomotor retardation, and osteoporosis, underscoring GK1′s importance in metabolic health.
