GIF Antibody (B-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects GIF (Gastric intrinsic factor) in mouse, rat, and human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GIF is a 417 amino acid secreted glycoprotein produced by the parietal cells of the stomach, playing a crucial role in the absorption of vitamin B12, which is essential for red blood cell formation and proper nervous system function. Once vitamin B12 binds to GIF, absorption occurs in the terminal ileum via the receptor cubilin, highlighting GIF′s importance in preventing conditions such as pernicious anemia, an autoimmune disorder that leads to the destruction of parietal cells and subsequent malabsorption of vitamin B12. Deficiencies in GIF can also result from genetic mutations in the GIF gene, leading to hereditary intrinsic factor deficiency and associated megaloblastic anemia. Anti-GIF antibody (B-2) serves as an invaluable tool for researchers studying vitamin B12 metabolism and related disorders, providing insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying these critical biological processes.
