galectin-3 Antibody (B-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody designed to target galectin-3. anti-galectin-3 antibody (B-2) is raised against amino acids 1-160 of the human galectin-3 protein and is recommended for the detection of galectin-3 in mouse, rat, and human samples using a variety of applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Galectin-3, also known by alternate names such as Mac-2, hMac-2 (human Mac-2), GALBP (galactose-binding protein), CBP35 (carbohydrate-binding protein 35), and LGALS3 (lectin, galactoside-binding, soluble, 3), is a member of the galectin family of soluble β-galactoside-binding lectins that play crucial roles in modulating cell-to-cell adhesion and interactions between cells and the extracellular matrix (ECM), which are essential for processes such as tissue development, immune response, and cellular communication. Importantly, galectin-3 is involved in tumor progression and metastasis by influencing cancer cell proliferation, apoptosis, and angiogenesis, making galectin-3 a significant target in cancer research. Additionally, galectin-3 participates in pre-mRNA splicing and apoptosis, thereby contributing to cellular homeostasis and the cellular response to stress. Galectin-3 is expressed in various cell types including colonic and intestinal epithelial cells, inflammatory macrophages, papillary and follicular carcinomas, neoplastic astrocytes, and certain B and T lymphocytes. The upregulated expression of galectin-3 is associated with enhanced cancer progression and metastasis, thyroid malignancies, and Crohn′s disease, and serves as a diagnostic marker for conditions such as Hurthle cell adenomas and carcinomas. galectin-3 monoclonal antibody (B-2) is recommended for researchers investigating the multifaceted roles of galectin-3 in health and disease, facilitating advanced studies into galectin-3′s involvement in cancer biology, inflammatory responses, and other critical physiological and pathological processes.

Can galectin-3 (B-2): sc-25279 monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

Asked by: Cweed
Thank you for your question. Yes, galectin-3 (B-2): sc-25279 has been validated for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
