galectin-3 Antibody (A3A12) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody designed to target galectin-3, also known by its alternate names Mac-2, hMac-2 (human Mac-2), GALBP (galactose-binding protein), CBP35 (carbohydrate-binding protein 35), and LGALS3 (lectin, galactoside-binding, soluble, 3). anti-galectin-3 antibody (A3A12) is raised against recombinant full-length human galectin-3 and is recommended for the detection of galectin-3 in mouse, rat, and human samples using a variety of applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), flow cytometry (FCM), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Galectin-3 is a member of the galectin family of soluble β-galactoside-binding lectins characterized by a single carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) that is crucial for binding to galactose-containing glycoconjugates. Structurally, galectin-3 can exist in both monomeric and oligomeric forms, allowing galectin-3 to engage in diverse interactions that are essential for modulating cell-to-cell adhesion, cell-to-extracellular matrix (ECM) interactions, and various cellular signaling pathways. Post-translational modifications of galectin-3, such as phosphorylation and oxidation, play a vital role in regulating function, stability, and localization within the cell, thereby influencing processes like apoptosis, immune responses, and cancer progression. These modifications can alter galectin-3′s ability to interact with other proteins and carbohydrates, thereby affecting cellular homeostasis and disease states. Upregulated expression of galectin-3 is closely associated with enhanced cancer progression and metastasis, thyroid malignancies, and Crohn′s disease, and serves as a valuable diagnostic marker for conditions such as Hurthle cell adenomas and carcinomas. galectin-3 (A3A12) antibody is available in both non-conjugated form and a variety of conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates.
