  • specific for an epitope mapping between amino acids 98-120 near the N-terminus of GALC of human origin
  • GALC Antibody (G-6) is recommended for detection of GALC isoforms 1 and 2 of human origin by WB, IP, IF and ELISA
  • Anti-GALC Antibody (G-6) is available conjugated to agarose for IP; HRP for WB, IHC(P) and ELISA; and to either phycoerythrin or FITC for IF, IHC(P) and FCM
  • also available conjugated to Alexa Fluor® 488, Alexa Fluor® 546, Alexa Fluor® 594 or Alexa Fluor® 647 for WB (RGB), IF, IHC(P) and FCM, and for use with RGB fluorescent imaging systems, such as iBright™ FL1000, FluorChem™, Typhoon, Azure and other comparable systems
  • also available conjugated to Alexa Fluor® 680 or Alexa Fluor® 790 for WB (NIR), IF and FCM; for use with Near-Infrared (NIR) detection systems, such as LI-COR®Odyssey®, iBright™ FL1000, FluorChem™, Typhoon, Azure and other comparable systems
  • m-IgG Fc BP-HRP, m-IgG2a BP-HRP and m-IgGκ BP-HRP are the preferred secondary detection reagents for GALC Antibody (G-6) for WB applications. These reagents are now offered in bundles with GALC Antibody (G-6) (see ordering information below).

SEE ALSO...

GALC Antibody (G-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects GALC of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). GALC (G-6) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. GALC, or galactosylceramidase, is a crucial lysosomal enzyme responsible for hydrolyzing galactose ester bonds in several galactolipids, such as galactosylceramide and lactosylceramide, which are vital components of the myelin sheath surrounding nerve cells. Proper functioning of GALC is essential for maintaining myelin integrity, as disruptions in GALC activity can lead to toxic substrate accumulation, ultimately resulting in severe neurological disorders like Krabbe disease, an autosomal recessive condition affecting approximately 1 in 150,000 infants. Mutations in the GALC gene, such as the W339X premature stop codon found in the "twitcher" mouse model, lead to complete loss of enzymatic activity and serve as a critical tool for studying the pathophysiology of this devastating disease. Alternate transcriptional splice variants of the GALC gene have been identified, encoding different isoforms that may have distinct functional roles, further emphasizing GALC′s importance in both health and disease.
