SEE ALSO...

Furin Antibody (G-6) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects Furin in mouse, rat, and human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Furin (G-6) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and multiple conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and various Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Furin, also known as FUR, PACE, PCSK3, SPC1, and Kex2p, is a calcium-dependent serine endoprotease that plays a crucial role in processing latent precursor proteins into active forms, essential for numerous physiological processes. Located primarily in the trans-Golgi network, Furin′s activity requires tight regulation to prevent premature activation that could lead to unwanted protein degradation or activation. Furin is synthesized as an inactive zymogen, with an inactivating prosegment at its N-terminal that maintains inactivity until reaching the trans-Golgi network. Upon autocatalytic cleavage, the prosegment dissociates, allowing Furin to cleave various substrates, including proparathyroid hormone and transforming growth factor beta 1 precursor, thereby influencing critical biological pathways such as cell signaling and tissue remodeling. Furin specifically cleaves proMMP-2 within the trans-Golgi network, highlighting its importance in regulating matrix metalloproteinase activity, which is vital for extracellular matrix turnover and cellular communication.
