Ferrochelatase Antibody (D-7) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects Ferrochelatase in human samples through applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Ferrochelatase, also known as heme synthetase or protoheme ferro-lyase, plays a crucial role as the terminal enzyme in the biosynthesis of protoheme, catalyzing the insertion of ferrous iron into protoporphyrin IX. This enzymatic activity is vital for the production of heme, an essential component of hemoglobin and various cytochromes, which are critical for oxygen transport and cellular respiration. Ferrochelatase is primarily located in the mitochondria, where anti-Ferrochelatase antibody (D-7) shows association with the mitochondrial membrane, underscoring its importance in cellular energy metabolism. Ferrochelatase is a homodimeric protein that features two nitric oxide-sensitive clusters and coordinated 2FE-2S clusters, which may function as sensors for nitric oxide, linking heme biosynthesis to cellular signaling pathways. Mutations in the gene encoding Ferrochelatase, known as FECH, can lead to erythropoietic protoporphyria (EPP), a dominantly inherited disorder characterized by photosensitivity and hepatobiliary complications, highlighting the clinical significance of this protein. Ferrochelatase monoclonal antibody (D-7) is an invaluable tool for researchers studying heme metabolism and related disorders.
