Elafin Antibody (H-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2a kappa light chain antibody that detects elafin protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-elafin antibody (H-2) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Elafin, also known as elastase-specific inhibitor (ESI) or skin-derived anti-leukoproteinase (SKALP), plays a crucial role in modulating inflammation by inhibiting elastase, an enzyme that can contribute to tissue damage during inflammatory responses. This protein is predominantly located in the epidermis, particularly in inflammatory skin diseases such as psoriasis, where elafin is found in suprabasal differentiated keratinocytes. Elafin′s presence in psoriatic skin, but not in normal epidermis, highlights its potential as a biomarker for inflammatory conditions. Additionally, elafin can exist in both free and covalently immobilized forms, with immobilized forms attached to cornified envelopes through transglutaminase cross-linking, which is significant for its functional role in skin barrier integrity. The gene encoding elafin is located on human chromosome 20q12-q13, and while there is no direct allelic association with pustular psoriasis, studies indicate a decrease in elafin levels in lesional skin of patients with this condition compared to those with plaque-type psoriasis.
