eIF2Bα Antibody (C-11) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects the eIF2B alpha protein of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). anti-eIF2Bα antibody (C-11) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. eIF2B alpha protein plays a crucial role in the regulation of protein synthesis initiation in eukaryotic cells, functioning as a guanine nucleotide exchange factor that facilitates the exchange of GDP for GTP on the eIF2 complex. This process is vital for the formation of the eukaryotic initiation complex, which is essential for the translation of mRNA into proteins. The eIF2B complex is composed of five subunits: eIF2Bα, eIF2Bβ, eIF2Bγ, eIF2Bδ, and eIF2Bε, with eIF2Bε subunit exhibiting GEF activity that is enhanced by the presence of other subunits. Notably, eIF2 phosphorylation can inhibit eIF2B GEF activity, a process dependent on eIF2Bα subunit. Mutations in eIF2Bα have been linked to leukoencephalopathy with vanishing white matter (VWM), a serious neurological disorder characterized by progressive motor deterioration and susceptibility to head trauma, underscoring eIF2Bα′s significance in maintaining cellular function and health.
