DSC1 Antibody (A-4) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects DSC1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). DSC1 (A-4) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. The desmosomal cadherin DSC1 is primarily expressed in the upper epidermis, where DSC1 plays a crucial role in maintaining strong cell adhesion and barrier integrity, which is vital for protecting underlying tissues from environmental stressors. This type I membrane protein is essential for epidermal differentiation and contributes to the overall structural stability of the skin. DSC1 interacts with other desmosomal proteins, such as DSC3, which is also a type I membrane protein found in all layers of the epidermis and in various epithelial tissues. The DSC1 gene, located on chromosome 18q12.1, consists of 17 exons and undergoes alternative splicing to produce isoforms that may influence cell adhesion properties, thereby affecting epidermal cell positioning and function. Understanding DSC1 interactions and functions is important for elucidating the mechanisms underlying skin integrity and the pathophysiology of skin disorders.
