SEE ALSO...

DRP1 Antibody (C-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects DRP1 protein of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry, and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). DRP1 (C-5) antibody is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Dynamin-related protein 1 (DRP1), also known as Dynamin-like protein 1, Dlp1, DVLP, or Dymple, plays a crucial role in mediating outer mitochondrial membrane fission in mammalian cells, a process essential for mitochondrial dynamics and cellular health. DRP1 is characterized by an N-terminal tripartite GTP-binding domain, which is a hallmark of the Dynamin superfamily of GTPases. Structurally, DRP1 exists as a T-shaped dimer composed of a head, leg, and stalk, and GTP binding induces a conformational change that generates the mechanical force necessary for membrane constriction. DRP1 is ubiquitously expressed, with particularly high levels in skeletal muscle, heart, kidney, and brain tissues, and localizes to the perinuclear region within cells. In mouse brain, DRP1 shows high expression in the cerebellum, especially in Purkinje cells, highlighting DRP1′s importance in neuronal function. During apoptosis, DRP1 translocates from the cytosol to mitochondria, localizing to sites of organelle division, and DRP1 inhibition prevents cell death, underscoring the critical role of mitochondrial fission in the apoptotic process.

We bought the antibody a long time ago and despite it working very well, we wanted to know what your explanation is for the double band that appears. It always happens to us using an osteosarcoma cell line. This double band also appears in your images on

Thank you for your question. DRP1 protein has several truncated alternate splice variants, that can be detected by the antibody, but map at a lower molecular weight than the protein's canonical form. If you have concerns about the antibody's age, please get in touch with our technical service team directly.

Just a quick question...the predicted band should be around 82KDa. I see a very clear band at right below 75KDa. The example by the user above was also below 75. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Asked by: pri1
Thank you for your question. We have not seen the band quite that low, but I believe you are seeing the right band as this is a very specific and strong antibody. Please contact Technical Service by phone, (800)-457-3801 option 2, email <scbt@scbt.com>, or by live chat directly on our website, www.scbt.com, and we would be happy to help you figure out why your band may appear lower than expected. Santa Cruz Biotechnology does warranty our antibodies for one year from the date of purchase. If we are unable to successfully troubleshoot your application we will send you a replacement antibody free of charge, or issue a credit or refund if that is not possible.

Is it possible to use the AC conjugated DRP1 Antibody (C-5): sc-271583 AC in both Western Blot and IP?

Asked by: jenni
Thank you for your inquiry. We do not recommend the use of the AC conjugated form in Western blot. The AC conjugated form of the antibody is specifically used for IP. The unconjugated form of the antibody is the best choice when working in multiple applications.
