DRP1 Antibody (6Z-82) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects DRP1 in mouse, rat, and human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Dynamin-related protein 1 (DRP1) plays a crucial role in mediating outer mitochondrial membrane fission, a process essential for mitochondrial dynamics and cellular health. DRP1 is also referred to as Dynamin-like protein 1, Dlp1, DVLP, or Dymple, and is characterized by an N-terminal tripartite GTP-binding domain, which is a hallmark of the Dynamin superfamily of GTPases. Structurally, DRP1 exists as a T-shaped dimer composed of a head, leg, and stalk, and GTP binding induces a conformational change that generates the mechanical force necessary for membrane constriction. DRP1 is ubiquitously expressed, with particularly high levels in skeletal muscle, heart, kidney, and brain tissues. Within cells, DRP1 is localized to the perinuclear region, and in mouse brain, DRP1 is notably abundant in the cerebellum, especially in Purkinje cells. During apoptosis, DRP1 translocates from cytosol to mitochondria, localizing to sites of organelle division, which underscores DRP1′s critical role in mitochondrial fission and regulation of cell death. DRP1 inhibition has been shown to prevent apoptosis, highlighting DRP1′s importance in maintaining cellular integrity and function.
