Clathrin LC Antibody (3F133) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b antibody that detects Clathrin in mouse, rat, human, bovine, Xenopus, and zebrafish by applications such as western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. Clathrin is a crucial cytosolic coat protein that plays a vital role in receptor-mediated endocytosis, facilitating the engulfment of receptor proteins into clathrin-coated vesicles. The structure of Clathrin, composed of three heavy chains and three light chains that assemble into a distinctive triskelion shape, is essential for vesicle formation and cargo selection. This unique triskelion structure allows Clathrin to effectively coat budding vesicles, ensuring proper transport of proteins and lipids within cells. Clathrin light chain A (LCA) and Clathrin light chain B (LCB) are integral to regulating this self-assembly process, contributing to protein sorting during endocytosis and organelle biogenesis. LCA and LCB are encoded by separate genes with 60% homology, sharing common features including alternative mRNA splicing that generates tissue-specific isoforms, particularly in the brain where higher molecular weight isoforms form. Clathrin (3F133) antibody serves as an invaluable tool for studying endocytosis dynamics and intracellular transport mechanisms.
