SEE ALSO...

CD68 Antibody (3F103) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects CD68 of mouse, rat, and human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and flow cytometry (FCM). Anti-CD68 antibody (3F103) is available as the non-conjugated form. CD68, homologous to mouse antigen macrosialin, is a member of a family of acidic, highly glycosylated lysosomal glycoproteins (LGPs) that includes lamp-1 and lamp-2. CD68 plays a crucial role in the immune system, primarily functioning as a marker for macrophages and other myeloid cells, which are essential for defense against pathogens and regulation of inflammation. CD68 is predominantly located in cytoplasmic granules and cytoplasm of various non-hematopoietic tissues, including liver and kidney tubules and glomeruli, and is also present, albeit to a lesser extent, on the surface of macrophages, monocytes, neutrophils, basophils, and large lymphocytes. CD68 presence on these immune cells is vital for identification and characterization, aiding in understanding their role in immune responses and tissue homeostasis. Additionally, lysosomal glycoproteins like CD68 are major components of lysosomal membranes, which may help protect these membranes from degradation by hydrolases, thereby maintaining cellular integrity and function.
