cathepsin D Antibody (C-5) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody targeting an epitope mapped between amino acids 171-189 within an internal region of human cathepsin D, with species reactivity in mouse, rat, and human. Anti-cathepsin D antibody (C-5) is validated for applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Cathepsin D, also referred to as CTSD, is a lysosomal aspartyl protease that plays a key role in protein degradation, autophagy, and the generation of regulatory peptides through cleavage of precursor proteins. Interacting with proteins such as HSP70 and members of the Bcl-2 family, cathepsin D influences cellular stress responses and apoptosis pathways. Cathepsin D activity is tightly regulated by processing from an inactive zymogen to an active two-chain enzyme, a step facilitated by intralysosomal conditions. Dysregulation of cathepsin D or associated interactions has been implicated in cancer progression, contributing to tumor invasion and metastasis, as well as in neurodegenerative diseases. Transcriptional regulation of cathepsin D occurs through binding sites for Sp1 and AP-2, ensuring precise expression in response to cellular demands.
