Calponin 3 Antibody (A-2) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects Calponin 3 in mouse, rat, and human samples through various applications including western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Anti-Calponin 3 antibody (A-2) is available in both non-conjugated and multiple conjugated forms, such as agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and various Alexa Fluor® conjugates. Calponin 3 plays a crucial role in regulating smooth muscle contraction and serves as a marker for smooth muscle cell differentiation. Calponin 3 is primarily located in smooth muscle tissues, where Calponin 3 interacts with actin and tropomyosin, functioning as an inhibitory factor that modulates actomyosin activity. The structural integrity of Calponin 3 allows for proper binding to F-Actin, thereby inhibiting the actin-activated MgATPase activity of phosphorylated myosin. Phosphorylation at Serine 175 by protein kinase C or calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II can disrupt these interactions, leading to a loss of regulatory function. The presence of three distinct forms of Calponin—Calponin 1, Calponin 2, and Calponin 3—highlights the diversity of this protein family, with Calponin 2 also being found in heart muscle tissue and Calponin 3 having a presence in the brain, underscoring its importance in various physiological contexts.
