The human Ksp-cadherin gene is located on chromosome 16q22, while the mouse counterpart is found in a highly syntenic region of distal chromosome 8. The unique structure of cadherin-16, characterized by its large extracellular domain containing five homologous repeats, is essential for binding specificity and function, underscoring its importance in renal tissue architecture and overall kidney health.
