Datasheets
  • Myc Antibody (SPM237) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 κ, cited in 5 publications, provided at 200 µg/ml
  • raised against a synthetic peptide corresponding to C-terminal amino acids 408-439 of c-Myc of human origin
  • recommended for detection of c-Myc p67 and c-Myc tagged fusion proteins of mouse, rat, human and monkey origin by WB, IP, IF, IHC(P), FCM and ELISA; also reactive with additional species, including and feline and canine; non cross-reactive with N-Myc or L-Myc proteins; widely used in combination with eukaryotic expression vectors encoding proteins with c-Myc (amino acids 408-439) epitope tag
  • See Myc (9E10): sc-40 for Myc antibody conjugates, including AC, HRP, FITC, PE, Alexa Fluor® 488, 594, 647, 680 and 790.
  • m-IgG Fc BP-HRP and m-IgGκ BP-HRP are the preferred secondary detection reagents for Myc Antibody (SPM237) for WB and IHC(P) applications. These reagents are now offered in bundles with Myc Antibody (SPM237) (see ordering information below).

c-Myc Antibody (SPM237) is a mouse monoclonal antibody raised against amino acids 408-439 within the C-terminal domain of human c-Myc. c-Myc mouse monoclonal antibody (SPM237) recognizes an epitope within this region and detects c-Myc protein from mouse, rat, and human sources. Anti-c-Myc monoclonal antibody (SPM237) demonstrates high specificity and affinity in Western blotting, immunoprecipitation, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry on paraffin-embedded tissues. c-Myc (SPM237) antibody is available in non-conjugated form and multiple conjugated forms including agarose, HRP, PE, FITC, and various Alexa Fluor® conjugates, offering versatility for diverse experimental needs. The c-Myc protein, encoded by the MYC proto-oncogene on chromosome 8q24, is a nuclear transcription factor that plays a pivotal role in regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis, and neoplastic transformation. c-Myc contains critical structural motifs, including the basic region, helix-loop-helix, and leucine zipper domains, essential for DNA binding and heterodimerization with Max protein. The c-Myc/Max heterodimer binds to specific E-box sequences (CACGTG) in target gene promoters, activating transcription and promoting cell cycle progression. Overexpression or amplification of the c-Myc gene is a hallmark of many human cancers, including Burkitt′s lymphoma, neuroblastoma, and carcinomas of the lung, breast, and colon, leading to uncontrolled cell growth and tumor development. Max can form heterodimers with other basic helix-loop-helix leucine zipper proteins like Mad1 and Mxi1; these complexes repress transcription by recruiting co-repressors such as mSin3, thereby counteracting c-Myc activity. Understanding the intricate regulatory mechanisms involving c-Myc is crucial for cancer research and the development of targeted therapies.

Can c-Myc (SPM237): sc-56505 monoclonal antibody be used to stain formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue sections?

Asked by: Professor Griffin
Thank you for your question. Yes, c-Myc (SPM237): sc-56505 has been validated for use in IHC with paraffin-embedded sections. We recommend performing antigen retrieval with sodium citrate buffer (pH 6) and heat. The full protocol can be found here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/resources/protocols/immunoperoxidase-staining
