SEE ALSO...

β-2-Microglobulin Antibody (BBM.1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG2b kappa light chain antibody that detects β-2-Microglobulin protein of mouse, rat, human, and primate origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry. Anti-β-2-Microglobulin antibody (BBM.1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. β-2-Microglobulin plays a crucial role in the immune system as a component of major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I molecules, which are essential for presenting peptide antigens on the surface of cells to T cells. This presentation is vital for the immune response, as β-2-Microglobulin allows the immune system to recognize and eliminate infected or malignant cells. β-2-Microglobulin′s structure includes a non-covalent association with the alpha heavy chain of MHC class I, forming an immunoglobulin domain-like structure critical for proper folding and expression of these molecules. Mice lacking β-2-Microglobulin exhibit a normal distribution of T cells but are unable to produce mature CD4-8+ T cells, leading to defects in T cell-mediated cytotoxicity. The human β-2-Microglobulin gene is located on chromosome 15q21-q22.2 and encodes a 119 amino acid protein, with mutations in this gene being linked to the progression of malignant melanoma phenotypes.
