    SEE ALSO...

ADH5 Antibody (B-1) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that detects ADH5 of human origin by western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). ADH5 Antibody (B-1) is available in both non-conjugated and various conjugated forms, including agarose, horseradish peroxidase (HRP), phycoerythrin (PE), fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC), and multiple Alexa Fluor® conjugates. ADH5, also known as alcohol dehydrogenase 5 (class III), formaldehyde dehydrogenase, ADHX, ADH-3, or GSNOR, is a 374 amino acid cytoplasmic protein that plays a crucial role in cellular metabolism by catalyzing the oxidation of various substrates, including long-chain primary alcohols and S-hydroxymethyl-glutathione, which forms from the reaction of formaldehyde with glutathione. This enzymatic activity is vital for detoxifying formaldehyde, a potentially harmful byproduct of various metabolic processes, thereby protecting cells from oxidative stress and maintaining metabolic homeostasis. ADH5 exists as a homodimer and is expressed ubiquitously, utilizing iron as a cofactor in catalytic function. Notably, genetic variations in the ADH5 gene have been linked to differences in drug and alcohol dependence among individuals, highlighting its significance in pharmacogenomics and addiction studies.
