SEE ALSO...

Actin Antibody (2Q1055) is a mouse monoclonal IgG1 kappa light chain antibody that is raised against purified gizzard actin of chicken origin and demonstrates strong reactivity with actin proteins from species including mouse, rat, human, and avian sources. Actin is an essential protein found in nearly all eukaryotic cells, playing a pivotal role in cell structure, movement, and division. Actin forms microfilaments that are necessary for maintaining the cytoskeleton, a network that provides structural support and helps with intracellular transport and signal transduction. Actin is also vital for processes like muscle contraction, cell motility, and cytokinesis, all of which are critical to the functioning of tissues and organs in health and disease. Understanding actin dynamics is crucial, as actin polymerization and depolymerization through protein-protein interactions allow cells to rapidly change shape, migrate, and respond to external stimuli. One key interacting protein is myosin, which binds to actin filaments to produce muscle contraction through ATP-dependent sliding mechanisms. Another important protein is profilin, which binds to actin monomers and facilitates their addition to the growing ends of actin filaments, promoting polymerization. The Arp2/3 complex is also crucial, as this complex binds to existing actin filaments and initiates the formation of new branches, creating a network essential for cell motility and shape. Additionally, cofilin binds to actin filaments and increases the rate of depolymerization, regulating actin filament turnover and dynamics. These interactions are vital for various cellular processes, including muscle contraction, cell movement, cell division, and maintenance of cell shape. Beyond structural functions, actin also plays roles in embryogenesis, wound healing, and the invasiveness of cancer cells, making actin a key protein in research areas like oncology, developmental biology, and regenerative medicine. Anti-actin antibody (2Q1055) is suitable for use in western blotting (WB), immunoprecipitation (IP), immunofluorescence (IF), and immunohistochemistry with paraffin-embedded sections (IHCP), making anti-actin antibody (2Q1055) versatile for analyzing actin expression and localization in various experimental systems.

Can Actin (2Q1055): sc-58673 be frozen?

Asked by: jenniferc
No. The antibody solution contains gelatin. When the gelatin is frozen the antibody precipitates out of solution. However, if an antibody’s datasheet says that the antibody should be stored frozen, then the antibody can be frozen, as these antibodies do not contain gelatin.

What secondary reagent should I use for detection of the Actin Antibody (2Q1055) in IHC with paraffin-embedded tissue sections?

Asked by: Trav11
We recommend using one of our exclusive Mouse IgG Binding Proteins as a secondary detection reagent, such as m-IgGκ BP-FITC: sc-516140, for immunohistochemistry. A complete list of all available binding proteins is available on our website here: https://www.scbt.com/scbt/browse/support-products-mouse-igg-binding-proteins/_/N-ecrety
