OAT2 Inhibitors
Organic Anion Transporter 2 (OAT2) plays a significant role in the hepatic and renal uptake of various organic anions, including several drugs and endogenous substances. Direct inhibition of OAT2 is not well-established, but several compounds are known to interact with and potentially inhibit its transport function. Probenecid, a uricosuric agent, is a well-known inhibitor of several organic anion transporters and can compete with other substrates for transport via OAT2. Similarly, compounds such as Indomethacin, Ibuprofen, Ketoprofen, Diclofenac, and Piroxicam have been reported to inhibit OAT2, potentially affecting its substrate transport function.Diuretics like Furosemide also interact with OAT2, indicating the potential for altered transport of organic anions in the presence of these compounds. Agents such as Benzylpenicillin and Ciprofloxacin may also inhibit OAT2, affecting the disposition of endogenous compounds transported by OAT2.
