LHR Activators

Chemical activators of LHR, or Luteinizing hormone receptor, primarily function by influencing the cyclic AMP (cAMP) pathway that LHR is intrinsically involved in as a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR). Forskolin and IBMX, for instance, can modulate this pathway by increasing cAMP levels through the activation of adenylate cyclase and through the inhibition of phosphodiesterases, respectively. This increase in cAMP levels can then lead to increased LHR activity.

Additionally, several inhibitors of specific phosphodiesterase (PDE) subtypes, such as Rolipram, Vinpocetine, Zardaverine, Cilostamide, Siguazodan, Etazolate, Trequinsin, Milrinone, Pimobendan, and Cilomilast, can increase cAMP levels by specifically inhibiting the PDE subtype that they target. This prevents the breakdown of cAMP, leading to an increase in its intracellular concentration, which can then lead to an increase in LHR activity. These compounds, therefore, provide various ways to modulate the activity of LHR through their effect on cAMP levels.
