Tenomodulin Activators

Tenomodulin activators represent a structurally diverse array of exogenous compounds capable of enhancing Tenomodulin gene expression. Despite molecular dissimilarity, these activators converge in upregulating Tenomodulin transcription through distinct mechanisms. Many Tenomodulin activators mediate their effects by ligation of specific intracellular receptors. Receptor activation prompts conformational changes recruiting cofactors targeted to Tenomodulin promoter domains. Bound cofactors subsequently remodel nearby chromatin architecture to improve recruitment of RNA polymerase and general transcription factors. Alternatively, some activators mobilize cell signaling networks by means of receptor crosstalk. These signals post-translationally modify activities of DNA-binding transcriptional regulators recognized by the Tenomodulin promoter.

Additionally, certain activators may exert indirect impacts through interference with general cellular processes that govern Tenomodulin expression levels. Disturbance of homeostatic signaling, stress response pathways or epigenetic controls can secondarily reshape the local milieu of transcriptional regulation over the Tenomodulin gene. Regardless of activating strategy, all members of this functional class augment Tenomodulin mRNA and protein production across tissue contexts by stimulating its gene transcription. Overall, elucidating the diverse mechanisms of Tenomodulin induction has expanded understanding of genetic control over this tendon-specific marker.
