S100 calcium-binding protein A14 (S100A14) is a protein that in humans is encoded by the S100A14 gene. S100A14 belongs to the S100 family of proteins, which are known for their role in a wide range of intracellular and extracellular functions.S100 proteins are characterized by their ability to bind calcium ions, which can induce a conformational change and affect the protein's interaction with its targets. These proteins are involved in the regulation of a variety of cellular processes, such as cell cycle progression, differentiation, and the inflammatory response.
S100A14 is expressed in a wide range of tissues and is known to interact with a number of other proteins, influencing various cellular processes. It has been implicated in the regulation of cell growth and survival, and is thought to play a role in cell proliferation, apoptosis, and the cellular response to stress.Interestingly, S100A14 is also associated with several types of cancer. Its expression levels can vary significantly in different types of tumors and at different stages of cancer progression. In some cancers, such as breast and ovarian cancer, S100A14 expression has been associated with tumor progression and poor prognosis. However, in other types of cancer, such as colorectal cancer, S100A14 appears to act as a tumor suppressor.
