OR7C2 Activators

OR7C2 include a variety of compounds that are primarily associated with the sense of smell. Benzaldehyde, for instance, is a chemical known to bind directly to olfactory receptors, and when it binds to OR7C2, it triggers a signaling cascade that results in the activation of this protein. Similarly, acetophenone and isoamyl acetate are compounds that interact with olfactory receptors. When acetophenone binds to OR7C2, it activates the protein via a G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) mechanism, which is a common pathway for the activation of olfactory receptors. Isoamyl acetate, often associated with the scent of bananas, also serves as an activator by binding to OR7C2, thus initiating the receptor's activation and subsequent signal transduction processes within olfactory sensory neurons.

Methyl salicylate, eugenol, and 2-phenylethanol have the capability to activate OR7C2. Methyl salicylate acts upon olfactory receptors, and upon interaction with OR7C2, it activates the receptor. Eugenol, a component commonly found in clove oil, similarly activates OR7C2 through direct binding, which leads to the activation of downstream olfactory signaling pathways. The interaction of 2-phenylethanol with OR7C2 is expected to result in the receptor's activation, thereby initiating olfactory signal transduction. Additionally, monoterpenoids such as citronellol and geraniol, as well as terpenes like limonene and linalool, are known for their fragrance and ability to activate olfactory receptors including OR7C2. Citronellol's and geraniol's activation of OR7C2 occurs through their binding to the receptor, leading to olfactory neuron activation. Limonene, found in citrus peels, and linalool, with its floral scent, both activate OR7C2 by direct binding to the receptor. Anethole and hexanal are also involved in the activation of OR7C2. Anethole, with its characteristic anise scent, activates olfactory receptors and particularly OR7C2 by engaging with the receptor and triggering olfactory signal transduction pathways. Hexanal, another aldehyde with a grassy aroma, similarly contributes to the activation of OR7C2 upon binding, confirming its role as an activator of olfactory receptor proteins.
